Perspective on Psychedelic Therapy
I feel compelled to write about this because I know many people are being drawn to psychedelic therapy for transformation since it has become legal in Oregon. As someone who has worked a great deal with psychedelics I think I have valuable insight to contribute to this topic.
Firstly, I want to say that I personally have benefited greatly from the use of psychedelics. And I have also suffered some very hard consequences due to them. They effect everyone differently and as I get older I am cautious about how they could be effecting us me on unforeseen physical, mental, emotional, and energetic levels.
Recently I came across The Mineral Shaman who speaks to the potential deficiencies psychedelics can cause to our mineral balance. I think this is a compelling point of consideration. He offers hair analysis prior to journeying to prepare the system before, during, and after. I think this is brilliant and a rarely spoken to aspect to thoughtful psychedelic journeying. He suggests that a lot of the reasons people seek psychedelics could be caused by mineral balance to begin with, such as anxiety, depression, and various physical ailments. There is a way in which our body can be drawn to choices that can actually exacerbate our symptoms to highlight them even more, and I wonder how often this is the case with the attraction to psychedelic use.
Another consideration that is not spoken widely to is the energetic and spiritual implications. When we go into an altered state we are not in a grounded state energetically. We are open to energetic influences such as entities, spirits, and energies which can wreak havoc on our personal energetic sovereignty. This is not to scare you but to help you take in the potential reality, weigh wisely the choice and prepare properly. We must be highly discerning on the spiritual path. And the further on the path I get the more cautious I am. We must really trust our intuition and determine what feels right at each step. We take full responsibility for our decisions by weighing the pros and cons.
There are many ways to expand the mind and surrender, which I feel is a big draw to psychedelic use. I certainly have learned how to let go, but the reality is that when you come back to reality and ego comes fully back online it can be hard to integrate what you experienced. The veil gets pulled back for a time with very little effort on your part so you can experience something very different from your day to day. But can you hold it, anchor the change? This is where the real work lies.
I have found that the Somato Emotional work that I offer my clients helps them meet the parts of themselves they feel that psychedelics will help them to face. We can meet those parts soberly, where you have a great deal more choice and you know that you got yourself there, not something outside of yourself. I am there to hold space and guide you but ultimately you are in full choice and you decide to do the work. This is extremely empowering. And the risks are far less. You strengthen the inner muscle that allows you to live differently.
Regardless of the path you decide to take I hope that these insights prove useful to you. We live in a culture that loves a quick fix. Believe me, I love efficiency too. And the sessions I offer allow for great change in a short period of time, but that change comes right from your bravery to face the truth of the matter fully embodied, present, and grounded soberly.
